Jeffrey Glassman, Partner in the Firm's Business & Corporate Department, was recently quoted in the Los Angeles Business Journal article “Turbulent times for TikTok as the White House and competitors take aim.”

The article discusses privacy and security challenges that TikTok, a Chinese-owned short-form video platform has been facing. They are under scrutiny for reportedly collecting personal data from U.S. citizens. TikTok has been working to improve security measures and alleviate government and user concerns. According to Jeffrey, an acquisition by a U.S.-based company may reduce national security risk, however, "ownership of TikTok by Big Tech does not necessarily resolve the overarching privacy concerns of individuals using the app." While the popular app works to alleviate concerns for its U.S. users, competitors such as Snap Inc., Google's YouTube and Facebook Inc.'s Instagram have launched features similar to that of TikTok's.
