In Memoriam of John A. Meyers
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our colleague and friend, John A. Meyers, Partner and Chair of Ervin Cohen & Jessup’s Healthcare Law Department. John passed away peacefully in Santa Monica, surrounded by his daughter and close friends. Born in Santa Monica and passing away in the same city, it was fitting that his final moments were spent in a hospital he deeply respected, as healthcare was the core of his life’s work and a sector he served with exceptional skill, dedication, and integrity.
John brought more than 30 years of experience in domestic and international healthcare and business law. His practice touched nearly every facet of the healthcare industry, including acquisitions and restructurings, managed care systems, payer-provider relationships, physician group management, reimbursement issues, and federal and state regulatory compliance. He guided clients through investigations, affiliations, and integrated delivery arrangements, earning a reputation for calm leadership, strategic insight, and unwavering professionalism.
Before joining ECJ, John led the Los Angeles Healthcare Practice Group for Katten Muchin’s Century City office. His distinguished career also included serving as Senior Vice President, Associate General Counsel, Chief Operations Counsel, Chief Counsel for International Affairs, and Special Counsel to the CEO at Tenet Healthcare Corporation. Earlier, he served as General Counsel to Summit Health Ltd. and practiced at Eamer, Bedrosian & Kardashian in Brentwood.
John was committed to service beyond the firm. He previously sat on the Board of Directors for the California Dance Institute and frequently spoke for healthcare and legal organizations. Since 2011, he served on the Editorial Advisory Board of the American Health Lawyers Association’s Federal Healthcare Laws and Regulations, the leading four-volume compilation of federal healthcare laws.
Above all, John will be remembered for his kindness, loyalty, and genuine care for the people around him. He cared deeply for his colleagues at Ervin Cohen & Jessup, and his presence, mentorship, and warmth made a lasting impact on all who had the privilege to work with him.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones. He will be profoundly missed.
