Pooja S. Nair, Partner and Chair of ECJ’s Food, Beverage and Hospitality Department, was quoted in a recent, NutraIngredients-USA article titled, "Navigating the Legal Landscape of Weight Loss Supplements.”

The article describes the red flags behind weight loss supplements that the FDA, FTC and Attorney General have been made aware of regarding the illegitimate evidence that weight loss supplements have been using to market their products.

Pooja explains that consumers must be careful when choosing which dietary supplement to ingest because they may be putting themselves at risk of consuming untested and unregulated hidden ingredients. Furthermore, she explains the four factors needed to substantiate a claim for weight loss pills, “(1) the meaning of the claims being made; (2) the relationship of the evidence to the claim; (3) the quality of the evidence; and (4) the totality of the evidence.”
