Albert C. Valencia is a partner of Ervin Cohen & Jessup’s Real Estate and Corporate Department.
Albert’s practice concentrates around real estate and general business matters. His clients include private equity investors, developers, operators and commercial banks in a broad range of real estate transactions, including acquisitions and dispositions, joint ventures and syndications, commercial leasing, financing, loan modifications, workouts and restructurings. Clients look to Albert for his vast experience when transacting in real estate asset classes including multi-family, office, retail, and hospitality. He enjoys helping clients form joint-ventures and syndications, structured finance (including obtaining CMBS loans, mezzanine debt, and preferred equity), and assisting property owners in asset management.
Prior to practicing law, Albert was a business consultant for the global consulting firms of Arthur Andersen LLP and Deloitte Consulting LLP, where he provided business process re-engineering and systems consulting services for Fortune 500 companies in the manufacturing, utilities, and entertainment industries. He has played integral parts of starting and operating two separate companies . His legal career began in the real estate department of the Am Law 100 law firms Mayer Brown LLP and Proskauer Rose LLP, and later joined a boutique firm in Beverly Hills.
Born in New York and raised in Los Angeles, Albert attended the University of California at Berkeley where he was an Emerging Leader Alumni Scholar, was a member of the Order of Omega Honor Society, and received a Bachelor of Arts in both Economics and Rhetoric in 1994. He later attended UCLA School of Law where he received his Juris Doctor in 2006 with a specialization in Business Law and Policy, was Managing Editor of the Asian Pacific American Law Journal, a member of the UCLA Moot Court Honors Program, and a member of UCLA’s National Moot Court Team that advanced to the Western Region quarter finals in 2005-06.
Albert is active in the community and was recognized by Public Counsel with the 2013 Pro Bono of the Year award for his work in organizing and forming a limited equity housing cooperative as a member of the Tierra Urbana Real Estate Team, and received the Proskauer Golden Gavel award in 2010 for his outstanding pro bono work. You will find Al regularly volunteering for various charities. He previously served on the Board of Directors for the Asian Pacific American Bar Association. He also has been included as a “Rising Star” with Super Lawyers for a number of years.
