Tom Sestanovich is a Partner in the Real Estate Department.
As one of the best-known real estate attorneys in Los Angeles, Tom’s practice is focused primarily on commercial real estate sales, acquisitions, securitized financings, and negotiating and documenting leases for office, retail and industrial properties throughout the country. He also handles environmentally related agreements and remediation. Tom is currently responsible for a national real estate portfolio in excess of 15 million square feet and serves as outside general counsel to some of California’s largest privately held developers, as well as representing ARKA Properties Group, Black Equities, Michael Development, Moose Toys, Wells Fargo and John Hancock Real Estate.
Tom handles the resolution of a variety of environmental matters for his clients with private parties and/or governmental agencies in California, Arizona, Texas, Georgia and New Jersey (to name a few). He also regularly handles the commercial leasing of several million square feet of industrial and office properties, and the acquisition and sale of about the same throughout the U.S. This year, for example, Tom has worked, or is currently working, on real estate transactions in Southern and Northern California, Georgia, Texas, Florida, New York and New Jersey.
As a lifelong Los Angeleno and Southern California resident, Tom earned both his undergraduate degree (Bachelor of Arts, English) and Juris Doctorate from UCLA (including the William F. Murray Scholarship; and an externship with the Chief Justice of the Nevada Supreme Court in 1986-87). After being admitted to the California State Bar in 1988, Tom started his legal career at Allen Matkins in Downtown Los Angeles, and has spent the past three (3) decades sharpening his pen and tongue on various aspects of commercial real estate leasing, purchase and sale, as well as handling the transactional aspects of environmental remediation and related agreements with and against local, State (LARWQCB and DTSC) and Federal (EPA) agencies.
Despite being a right leg amputee and teenage cancer survivor, Tom is an active sportsman and involved with Porsche North America, as well as the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic movements. (GO L.A. – 2028!). He is passionate about fishing and golf worldwide; the NFL and NBA; great friends, food and wine; and wandering off the ordinary path. He has two (2) wonderful daughters that put a smile on his face and try to keep him in line.
