Howard I. Camhi is a Partner in the Bankruptcy, Receivership and Creditors’ Rights Department.
Howard handles cases involving secured transactions in real and personal property as well as state and federal receiverships and assignments for the benefit of creditors.
He serves his clients in complex bankruptcy, corporate restructuring, distressed assets, asset sales and related litigation matters. Nationally, he has represented debtors, creditors’ committees, liquidating trustees, secured creditors and unsecured creditors in all aspects of corporate bankruptcy. He has systematically recovered millions of dollars through diligence and a deep understanding of the needs of each individual, business and institution.

Appointed Receiver in the matter of Federal Trade Commission v. EDebitPay, et al. (C.D. Cal. 2007) during which time Mr. Camhi was involved in specific operations of the companies to ensure compliance with Federal, State and local law. Mr. Camhi was successful in recovering millions of dollars for consumers allegedly defrauded in various debit card schemes.
Represented James H. Donell in his capacity as receiver appointed by the Securities and Exchange Commission in the matter of Securities and Exchange Commission v. J.T. Wallenbrock and Associates (C.D. Cal. 2002) Litigation in the Wallenbrock matter produced a notable decision in Donell v. Braun, 546 F.Supp.2d 1013 (D. Nev. 2008) involving subject matter jurisdiction in receivership matters.
Served as counsel to, or Chairman of, numerous Official Committees of Unsecured Creditors in Bankruptcy cases across the country. Cases include In re: Hamburger Hamlet Restaurants, Inc. In re: C&R Clothiers, Inc.; In re: Clothestime, Inc.; In re: Long John Silvers Restaurants, Inc.; In re: SHC (Top Flite); In re: L.A. Gear and In re: Dep Hair Care Products.
Represents numerous Bankruptcy Trustees in the Central District of California. Duties in these cases involve all areas of Bankruptcy law including asset sales, avoidance and other litigation. Mr. Camhi has been approved by the United States Department of Justice to preside over meetings of creditors in bankruptcy cases.
Represented numerous Assignees for the Benefit of Creditors under state law.
