The article covers the dilemma of a surge of lawsuits over the last four years related to employers not following internship guidelines of the Department of Labor (DOL) and state; seemingly taking advantage of their internship programs.
Scott reminds us that a lack of supervision can lead to problems. Not only that, but interns are depending on building relationships while “playing the game” of these programs for their career path. Internships are meant to be the “ultimate in education” and when an employer is not supporting that experience and giving back, you aren’t following the premise. These positions are not meant to be “free labor.”
