Michael Murphy is a Partner in the Litigation Department.
Michael has extensive experience in litigation and matters involving corporate governance disputes, breaches of fiduciary duty, fraud, defamation, the anti-SLAPP statute, trademark and trade dress litigation, trade secrets, real estate litigation, among others. Michael also has experience counseling clients on various types of contract negotiations, including Operating Agreements, asset purchase agreements, and management contracts. He also has experience prosecuting trademark applications before the United States Patent and Trademark Office, as well as the Trademark, Trials, and Appeal Board (TTAB).
Michael has experience in a variety of industries including real estate development, venture capital, the gaming industry (including gaming regulation), the apparel industry, software development, market research, printing, food and beverage, international music licensing, nursing homes, franchises, nursing homes and long term care facilities, the semiconductor industry, as well as startup ventures in an also diverse array.
Michael has a deep commitment to his community, which involves extensive participation in non-profit governance, fundraising, and consulting. He currently sits on two non-profit boards, including his eight-year service as Board President of Being Alive, Los Angeles, a non-profit providing psychological care and other wellness services to people with HIV living below the poverty line.
Michael graduated from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law in 2000 where he was honored with the Student Service Award, and he received his bachelor’s degree from Oberlin College, having double-majored in Biology as well as Law & Society. After graduating from law school, Mr. Murphy served as a law clerk to the Honorable Ronald Lee Gilman, of the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.
