ECJ Partner Phil Starr Closes Historic Agreement Between YMCA of Metropolitan LA and LA Unified School System
March 2008
ECJ Partner Phil Starr represented the YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles in negotiating a first of its kind agreement with the Los Angeles Unified School System to develop a full service YMCA facility on 1 ½ acres located on the site of University High School. Phil represented the YMCA on a pro bono basis and spent many hours over the past several months in negotiating this strategic partnership with the school district and its attorneys to provide for a 60 year ground lease on the school district's property. Under these historic agreements, the YMCA will provide programs and facilities to benefit the University High School students as well as serving the community and YMCA members. These agreements also provide a template for additional contemplated joint use projects between the YMCA and the LAUSD which will serve many children throughout the City of Los Angeles.
Phil, who is a former Chairman and has been a board member of the Westside branch of the YMCA for the past 15 years commented, "I am very grateful I could provide my legal expertise to the YMCA and I look forward to the coming challenge of building a flagship YMCA that will serve our community for many years to come."
